An upcoming musical spoofing the disastrous Willy Wonka experience is set to premiere at the Edinburgh Fringe.
The event gained notoriety in February when angry families called the police after discovering they had spent up to £35 to attend a sparsely decorated warehouse in Glasgow.
The upcoming stage reading of Willis Candy Spectacular: A Musical Parody will have its world premiere on August 9 at the Pleasance King Dome.
The show’s first three songs were released, with ER actor John Stamos performing Willy’s opening number, Candy Spectacular.
Producers say the number „harkens back to the cataclysmic event in Glasgow”.
Another song, titled Dreamed to Dare, features actor and yoga teacher Kirsty Patterson, who became a viral meme after pictures of her being a sad Oompa Loompa at the event.
No word on whether Stamos or Patterson will appear on the show.
Additional songs are expected to be released each Sunday leading up to the Fringe event.
A staged reading usually consists of the actors reading and singing the entire script, but without costumes or sets, with little movement on stage.
Part of the stage reading is to evaluate the flow, dialogue and songs of the show by the producers and directors.
Mr Croft, who has produced live versions of films such as The Nightmare Before Christmas and the Disney version of The Little Mermaid, said it usually takes years to create a new musical, but the Wonka show was „squeezed” into two. months.
Lyricists Alan Zachary and Michael Weiner said: „We love music with epic opening numbers.
„And we thought – what could be more epic than John Stamos singing about the end of humanity and combining the destruction of our species with an immersive experience in Scotland?”
The new production has nothing to do with any of the companies that hold the rights to the Roald Dahl book Charlie And The Chocolate Factory and its various adaptations, or the House of Illuminati behind the Glasgow event.
The phenomenon went viral in February, was mentioned on US late-night talk shows and sparked a paradoxical performance art frenzy in Los Angeles in April.
