Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is said to be inspired by The Real Ghostbusters animated series.

However, writer J. Michael Straczynski accused the production of not contacting him, although he created some creepy monsters.

According to Empire magazineThe upcoming Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel is inspired by the Ghostbusters cartoon that debuted in 1986.

The show continued the adventures of the classic Ghostbusters: Dr. Peter Venkman, Dr. Egon Spengler, Dr. Ray Stands, Winston Jedmore, their secretary Janine Melnitz and their mascot Slimer.

However, it introduced a whole bunch of interesting new ghosts and demons. Director Gil Kenan said the upcoming film is inspired by the show's „wild, original and weird-f**k villains.” Those villains include Drool the Dog Faced Goblin, as well as the alternate universe Peoplebusters.

Whether or not any of Straczynski's villains will make it to the big screen remains to be seen, but the writer penned several episodes of the classic '80s cartoon. Straczynski, best known as the creator of the sci-fi TV series Babylon 5, said the movie wasn't forthcoming, and when asked if he wasn't available at the time, he quipped: „Trying to remember… No, not really. … Of course I did laundry at some point. Did… Yes, maybe that's the problem.
