A female-led version of 'The Office’ is set on Prime Video in Australia – Variety

„The Office” comedy franchise will see middle management led by a woman for the first time in an Australian version playing on Amazon’s Prime Video.

Australian comedian and actor Felicity Ward („Wakefield,” „The Inbetweeners 2”) will portray Hannah Howard, MD of packaging company Flinley Cradick in „The Office Australia.” In a post-Covid plot twist, Howard receives word from head office that his branch will be closed and employees will have to work from home. She goes into survival mode, making promises she can’t keep and launching outlandish plots to keep her „working family” together.

The Australian adaptation is the 13th iteration of the show, originally created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant. Other international reruns include France, Canada, Chile, Israel and the Middle East.

The eight-part series will begin filming in Sydney in June. Produced by Prime Video, BBC Studios Australia and New Zealand and Bunya Entertainment. The show will be branded an Amazon Original and will launch on Prime Video worldwide, excluding the US, in 2024.

„The Office Australia” also stars Edith Poore („The Power of the Dog”), Steen Raskopoulos („The Duchess”), Shari Sebens („Thor: Love and Thunder”), Josh Thompson („Young Rock”), Johnny . Brooke (“What We Do in the Shadows”), Pallavi Sharda (“Twelve”), Susan Ling Young (“Hungry Ghosts”), Raj Labet, Lucy Schmidt and Fraz Tirani (“Underbelly”).

„I’m really excited about Australia remaking my little show from the turn of the century,” said Gervais, co-creator, co-writer and star of the UK version. „Office politics have changed quite a bit in 20 years, so we can’t wait to see how they navigate the modern-day David Brent.”
