JAKARTA (ANTARA) – The 8th meeting of the Steering Committee of the Asian International Mobility for Students (AIMS) program will expand the global connectivity of Indonesian students, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology said.
The 8th AIIMS Steering Committee Meeting has been organized by the Ministry in Yogyakarta from July 3-5, 2023.
„The meeting aims to bring the neighboring countries closer without barriers through innovative mobility schemes for students,” said the Ministry’s Acting Director of Higher Education, Research and Technology General Nizam on Tuesday.
The meeting will strengthen communication among AIMS member countries to create a second home image for students.
The meeting is attended by representatives from AIMS member countries including Brunei Darussalam, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand, Japan and South Korea, with Cambodia serving as an observer.
Also, the Regional Center of Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO RIHED) specializing in higher education and development chaired the meeting and facilitated the discussions.
RIHED Rimyen Kosaikanont, Center Director of SEAMEO, welcomed the 8th Steering Committee meeting as the first offline meeting after three years of online coordination due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
„We will make this 8th steering committee meeting a new spirit in welcoming cooperation in supporting people-to-people relations in the future,” Kosaiganont said.
Fourteen Indonesian universities are members of AIIMS, including Ahmad Dahlan University, University of Katja Mada (UGM), Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Bogor Agricultural University (IPP), and Cebu Nobember Institute of Technology (ITS).
They include Indonesian Institute of Arts-Denpasar, Indonesian Institute of Arts-Surakarta, Padjatjaran University, Cephalas Maret University (UNS), University of Sriwijaya, University of Indonesia (UI), University of Indonesian Education (UPI), Bina. Nusantara University and Maranatha University.
The meeting also reviewed the outcomes of the 7th AIIMS Steering Committee Meeting and the 16th AIIMS Annual Review Meeting held in Seoul. Also, issue of AIIMS certificates by Member States was discussed.
