NEW YORK (CNN) — OpenAI is making ChatGPT even easier to access.
OpenAI on Thursday announced the release of a free ChatGPT app for iOS users in the US, with plans to roll out to other countries soon.
The announcement comes six months after OpenAI first released ChatGPT to the public. The release quickly sparked a new artificial intelligence (AI) arms race in the tech industry to build and deploy tools that can generate text and images in response to user input.
Why did this pioneer of artificial intelligence decide to expose the dangers of the technology?
That same week OpenAI CEO Sam Altman testified before Congress about the risks AI could pose to the community, describing the technology’s current rise as a potential „tipping point” but one that requires safeguards.
The new ChatGPT app has the same capabilities as the web version of the viral chatbot tool and will help boost its popularity. With the app, users can send voice messages through their phone’s microphone instead of typing. Users can sync their history between devices.
Those who pay $20/month to subscribe to ChatGPT Plus get additional in-app benefits, including access to the capabilities of GPT-4, the next-generation version of the technology behind the tool.
OpenAI is planning to release the next version of Android, according to the company’s CTO Meera Murati.
