Yee, keeping peace, carries himself like gold
Having won two medals on his Olympic debut in Tokyo, the 26-year-old from Lewisham, London, arrives in Paris 2024 with important experience but added expectations.
Again, seeing the way Yee composed himself to push to the end, it was clear he was more in control than he was three years ago.
Comparing the experiences in Tokyo and Paris, Yee explains, „I felt very lucky to host the early Tokyo Games, and I felt really nervous during that interim period. Obviously, there weren’t that many crowds, so that allowed me to calm down and control my nerves.
No wonder he loves his Parisian performance so much, going one step further to take the gold, and doing so with his loved ones present.
He continues, “To be able to go into this with little expectation, I’ll admit, and to be able to have all my friends and family around to provide it was pretty special. I think it’s one of the most beautiful stadiums we’ve ever seen in triathlon and the Olympics. It’s super special.”
Five days after her individual gold, Yee returned home with two new Olympic medals for her collection after winning bronze in the mixed relay with her GB teammates.
In true British fashion, Yee kept calm, carried on, and walked away as Olympic champion.
