A new store has opened at a Derbyshire tip site to save reusables from going to waste.

Derbyshire County Council's Household Waste and Recycling Center on More Lane, Bolsover, now has a store with items collected from eight drop-off sites across the county.

These range from clothes to utensils, books and DVDs to furniture, garden ornaments, toys and games.

Anyone with items they think could be resold can highlight them to staff.

Profits are shared

Councilor Caroline Renwick, cabinet member for infrastructure and environment, said: „Reusing is better for the environment than recycling, which means we can put things to good use without having to use the energy to reprocess them and turn them into something new.

„If the reuse shop in Bolsover is popular, we will consider opening more shops at other recycling centers across the county.”

Proceeds from sales at the re-use shop will go towards the shop's running costs and any profits will be shared equally between the county council's waste budget, the council's waste site contractors HW Martin and the charity.

The store operates the same opening hours as the waste site, from 08:30 to 18:00 every day except Christmas Day, December 26 and New Year's Day.
