The film follows Ted (Marshall-Green), a failed writer-turned-Yankees Stadium peanut vendor who returns home after learning of the ill health of his Red Sox-obsessed father Marty (David Duchovny). As Marty tries to atone for his past, his situation worsens whenever his beloved Sox lose a game. To keep his dad's spirits up, Ted takes matters into his own hands and, with the help of his dad's neighborhood friends, leads the local team to victory. In the process, Ted forms a bond with Mariana (Beatrice), Marty's charming „death expert,” rekindling his writing ambitions.

„I wrote 'Bucky F*cking Tent' as a screenplay ten years ago, but it didn't get made, so I wrote it as a novel,” said Duchovny. „Then, I rewrote it from the novel into a screenplay. I originally wrote the son for myself, but as I got older in the years I was trying to create it, I happily adjusted to play the father. So beautiful.”
