Kobi Mainoo: Man Utd midfielder named in England squad for friendlies

Kobi Mainu was first called up to Lee Carsley's Under-21 squad for the Euro 2025 qualifiers against Azerbaijan and Luxembourg.

Manchester United midfielder Kobi Mainu has received his first England call-up for the upcoming friendlies against Brazil and Belgium.

Mainoo, 18, was originally named in the under-21 squad but was promoted to Gareth Southgate's senior squad.

England play Brazil on Saturday and Belgium on March 26 – at Wembley – in the final games before Southgate announces his Euro 2024 squad.

The remaining 26-member team reported to St George's Park on Tuesday.

United academy graduate Mainoo has been capped by England at Under-17, Under-18 and Under-19 levels.

The Stockport-born teenager made his Manchester United debut against Everton in November and went on to make 19 appearances.

He scored his first goal for the club in an FA Cup fourth round win at Newport at the end of January, before scoring a late winner against Wolves in the Premier League four days later.

Newcastle forward Anthony Gordon and Everton defender Jarrad Brandwhite are among the players to arrive at St George's Park after earning their first senior call-up.

Brentford striker Evan Toney will feature for the first time since serving an eight-month ban for breaching the Football Association's (FA) betting rules in January.
