WATCH: Zendaya Wears Full Metallic Suit at Toon Premiere

Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya hit London with fever Thursday night as Hollywood heartthrobs hit the red carpet for the world premiere of their new movie, Toon: Part Two.

There was a long line of fans waiting to see them and screaming their names as they walked in.

Zendaya drew audible gasps from the crowd when she finally appeared in a stunning metallic suit.

The long-awaited sequel originally premiered last fall.

The release date was pushed back due to strikes by Hollywood actors and writers, which plagued most of last year.

„It's a huge relief to finally release the film,” director Denis Villeneuve told BBC News. He said he'll be „biting his nails” until the film hits theaters next month.

Florence Buck and Austin Butler were among the star cast celebrating the film's launch.

The epic sci-fi film is based on Frank Herbert's novel Dune, published in 1965, and won many accolades. Hugo Award.

It continues the journey of Paul Atretis (Salamet) as he unites with his love interest Chani (Zendaya) and the Fremen desert people as they face a large enemy army.

In the sequel, Salamet's character learns their special way of surviving on a barren desert planet as he seeks revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family.

Salamet admitted that there was „a bit of pressure” to see the role become a critical and commercial success.

Speaking on the red carpet, the star said she hopes Doon: Part Three will follow. „I hope, I hope,” he shared.

The world of Toon can be quite confusing for those unfamiliar with the books. It is full of mystical prophecies, giant sandworms and warring factions.

But for many fans at Thursday's event in Leicester Square, the source material wasn't the main reason they were there.

„I'm so excited to see Timothée Chalamet,” said one excited fan. „I love him,” declared another young woman, holding a cardboard cutout of Chalamet.

Another fan told the BBC they were waiting to see Zendaya.

Salamet shot to fame in 2017's Call Me By Your Name, at which point he became the youngest Oscar nominee for Best Actor.

She became an internet sensation and the pin-up of choice for millennials and Generation Z.

Elvis star Austin Butler is one of the main villains

Zendaya, 27, is a well-known fashion icon and loyal follower with roles in Spider-Man with boyfriend Tom Holland and Toon: Part One.

When Masters of Air actor Butler made his entrance, there was a lot of squealing, supported by his model girlfriend Kaia Gerber.

Best known for his award-winning portrayal of Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann's Elvis (2022), Butler made his Toon debut as the bald, eyebrowless villain Feit-Routha.

„It's a really fun role to play,” Butler said. He said he was a „huge fan” of the book, as well as the first movie. „So this is the time of my life.”

New to the Toon franchise, Oppenheimer actress Buck plays a new character, Princess Darkness.

„She's completely different from anything I've done before,” Buck told BBC News, when asked to compare the character to some of his most memorable roles.

„Still with the same wisdom and bravery but it's all contained so I can spread my wings in a different position and have Denise guide me, and I feel very fortunate that all of these actors have done so.”

The star-studded cast includes Mission Impossible star Rebecca Ferguson, who plays Paul Atretus' mother, and Josh Brolin as General Kearney Halleck.

Christopher Walken, who portrays Emperor Shatham, is another new face in the sequel but did not attend the London premiere.

Great expectations

Anticipation on Toon: The Second Part is sky high after the massive success of the first installment.

Released in October 2021, Dune: Part One received ten Oscars, including Best Picture, and six for Cinematography, Editing, Score, Visual Effects, Production Design and Sound.

It was also a box office hit, grossing over $400m worldwide.

The anticipation for the new film is huge and it's encouraging A viral popcorn bucketIt has a lid in the shape of a sandworm.

How global audiences will respond to Toon: Part Two remains to be seen, but for fans who saw their idols Chalamet, Zendaya and their co-stars at the premiere, it was the night they've been waiting for.

Toon 2 hits UK cinemas on March 1, 2024.
