Striking Hollywood actors make counteroffer before further talks with studios

Oct 27 (Reuters) – Striking Hollywood actors have made a comprehensive counter-offer to major studios, the SAG-AFTRA artists’ union said in a post on social media platform X.

Talks between the union and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), a group representing Walt Disney ( DIS.N ) Netflix ( NFLX.O ) and other major media companies, are meeting again on Friday, the actors’ union said.

Ahead of Friday’s negotiations, a group of SAG-AFTRA members issued an open letter to union leadership, urging the negotiating team to continue fighting for improved compensation, royalties and workplace safety.

„We’re not coming to the cave now,” the group called out to members. „We have been on strike for months without work, without pay, to give up everything we fought for.”

The latest counteroffer, submitted by the actors’ union on Thursday, comes after media companies and the union representing striking American actors returned to the bargaining table on Tuesday.

Earlier this month, negotiations between Hollywood studios and SAG-AFTRA stalled as the two sides clashed over streaming revenue, the use of artificial intelligence and the focus of a three-month strike.

SAG-AFTRA members, representing 160,000 actors and other media professionals, have been on strike since July. The shutdown jolted next year’s movie slate and delayed the return of primetime television comedies and dramas. This has also created difficulties for team members who have been unemployed for months.
