Marco Pessecchi set the pace in the second free practice session of the MotoGP Japanese GP. The riders returned to the track at Motegi on Saturday, with the session focused on preparing for the rest of the weekend rather than setting fast lap times.
Raul Fernandes (Cryptodata RNF MotoGP Team/Aprilia) held the lead over Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha) with lap times not a major concern. Quartararo then took the lead, 0.215s ahead of Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac/Ducati).
Lap times continued to develop and Bessecchi (Mooney VR46 Racing Team/Ducati) moved to the top of the timesheets, with Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) second and Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda) third… Marquez moved up to second.
There was some stability on the lap for a while until Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM) moved into second place, less than ten minutes in, just one ten-thousandth of a second behind the leader. In the final minutes, Bessacci extended his lead, while Bagnaia dropped back to second.
In the closing stages, two changes stood out: Jack Miller (Red Bull KTM) moved up to third and Fabio Di Giannantonio (Grazzini/Ducati) to fourth. Bessecchi led by 0.367 seconds ahead of Bagnaia. Miller finished third, Di Giannantonio fourth and Binder rounded out the top five.
