Equestrian, which became an Olympic sport in 1900, was added to the Asian Games program in 1982. Japan has dominated the sport for years at continental competition, winning 43 medals, including 18 gold. Republic of Korea won 15 gold medals.
India won three gold medals, three silver medals and six bronze medals Equestrian at the Asian Games.
All three gold medals for India in equestrian came in Delhi in 1982. Raghubir Singh, who won the individual event champion in that edition, also won gold in the team event along with Ghulam Mohammad Khan, Bishal Singh and Milkha Singh.
