The Canary Yrichen Foundation hosted the II Social Technology Conference in the municipality of La Palma, Los Llanos de Aridane, from October 4 to 7.
This initiative was made possible by the drive and decision of the DISA Foundation, which has been experiencing socioeconomic uncertainty in the municipality for some time, firstly due to the Covid-19 pandemic and, above all. After the Tajokite eruption, he showed his concern for the condition of the people and especially the local youth.
Among its various initiatives, from the beginning it emphasized educational, recreational and preventive activities with young people, for which we launched a specific collaboration between the two institutions, and emphasized the problems of screen abuse or misuse of ICTs in these contexts.
Also, thanks to the support of the Los Llanos de Aridane City Council and especially the education, youth, nursery school and transparency led by Eduardo Pérez Pérez. activities.
Social technology is understood as a contemporary idea that refers to an „innovative proposal for development (economic or social)” based on the dissemination of solutions to essential problems in various areas (health, housing, energy, coexistence,…). In short, it consists of putting technology at the service of society, and not the other way around, thus using technology to prevent social problems, raise awareness and comprehensively address social issues, especially with young people. In this case too, Yrichen designed this community under the concern of many families about the abuse of technological devices or the misuse of social networks and other tools (cyberbullying, sharing intimate content, children’s access to pornography,…). Technical days to promote awareness in a practical, participatory, playful and preventive manner among the youth of the municipality, fathers, mothers, teachers and the community as a whole.
In the morning, between Wednesday and Friday, various activities and materials were promoted by the Yrichen mobile prevention unit at IES Eusebio Barreto and IES José María Pérez Pulido. These activities include themed escape rooms or immersive experiences as addiction prevention vehicles and the use of 3D technology. On each afternoon of those days, specific workshops are organized for small groups, lasting several hours and working on deeper aspects of social application of advanced technologies. In this sense, workshops are encouraged in digital production, music production, podcast creation and video editing. Finally, this Saturday the House of Culture held a talk for families at 10:00 a.m. on preventing techno-addicts and unhealthy uses of technologies, while Yrichen took his mobile unit on the street with the entire population, their goods and experience.
Through this initiative, Yrichen hopes to reach about 250 youth and about 50 families, educators and other people in the environment.
