John McGinn says he and his Aston Villa team-mates will wear Manchester City tops when Pep Guardiola’s title-chasing side visit Villa’s top-four rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday.
Villa are on the verge of qualifying for next season’s UEFA Champions League after they were held to a 3-3 draw at home to Liverpool. Spurs’ failure to beat Man City will see them secure a top-four spot, as Villa currently hold a five-point lead over the north Londoners with a game in hand.
„Some of us have never been close to Champions League football in our lives, so the target for us is huge,” McGinn said. Sky Sports.
„Throughout the season, I think you hear about everyone’s injuries, and I don’t want to compare us to other teams, but the manager has an 'excuse mentality’. We don’t use that as an issue. Apologies and people write us off all year, we floated well under the radar.
„We’re very close to fourth place now, we’ll get Man City tops tomorrow night and see what happens.”
Meanwhile, Villa boss Unai Emery says he will be busy preparing for the final game of the season, which sees Spurs take on Man City at Crystal Palace on Sunday.
