With the USA dominating the first half, Burkina Faso posed more of a threat to challenge Gonzalo Segares. Combined well around the box to put the ball on the wings and the American final third. After a strong performance in the World Cup opener against Korea Republic, goalkeeper Adam Beaudry once again stood tall, making several crucial stops while the American backline cleared several dangerous balls out of danger.
The Colorado Rapids keeper stopped midfielder Arona Ouattara’s hard shot at the top of the box in the 10th to swallow the 27th through ball. Center back Tyler Hall made three clearances in the space of a minute following a Burkina Faso corner in the 25th.
The U.S. had some patient possessions and some good build-up, but had trouble getting dangerous looks in front of goal early on. In the 18th, a nice exchange between defender Oscar Verhoeven and Bergimas got the ball to Figueroa, but his shot curled into the side netting.
Young Americans finally broke through at 45Th min. Bergimas found midfielder Paulo Rudizil cutting into the box and the midfielder sent a cross to Figueroa who tapped it in to open the scoring. It was the Liverpool forward’s team-leading ninth goal.
Rudizil found Peyton Miller on the left wing for the second goal and touched off a nice American counterattack. The 16-year-old forward played a cross from the top of the box for six, and when Figueroa couldn’t get to the ball, Berchimas positioned himself well a few yards back and struck it from a tight angle. American advantage goes into the break.
Bergimas’ three goals at the FIFA U-17 World Cup are tied for third all-time for the United States, behind Freddie Adu and Judah Cooks, who scored four goals in 2003 and 1993, respectively.
The 15-year-old grabbed his second brace of the match just after half-time with another impressive finish inside the box in the 50th, but it was whistled for offside.
Burkina Faso revived after the break and continued to challenge the American defense, but Beaudry and the backline held strong for long periods. He couldn’t get a foot on the ball, but Bergimas scored his team-leading third goal to shoot from a tight angle past a charging defender and the diving goalkeeper into the right corner of the Sixers. BFA – Jack Diarra (Abubakar Kamara), 89th minute: On the break, Kamara pushed it away for Diarra to cut down the left wing. He got past one American defender before firing around another from 12 yards out and past diving goalkeeper Adam Beaudry into the right side of the net. USA 2, BFA 1 final.
