Economy Minister Conor Murphy said the positive impact of UEFA EURO 2028 on the North's economy cannot be underestimated.

Speaking following a meeting today with Finance Minister Caoimhe Archibald and representatives from the Irish FA and Ulster GAA, Minister Murphy said:
“UEFA EURO 2028 is the biggest sporting event to be hosted in these islands. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to provide a much-needed and welcome boost to our economy.He added: “Not only is the tournament predicted to generate up to £2.6 billion for the Irish and British economies, it is expected to attract hundreds of thousands of visitors to these shores and a global television audience of over six billion. .”
The North of Ireland has a strong and successful track record of hosting international sporting events, including the Giro d'Italia and the first ever sell-out Open Championship.
Minister Murphy added:
“The North is well positioned and the event is poised to increase opportunities in terms of tourism, job creation, increased productivity, sporting legacy and investment.„I would like to thank our partners in this project for their continued support and commitment to making UEFA EURO 2028 a huge success for this island.”
Minister Archibald added:
“Hosting UEFA EURO 2028 presents a huge opportunity. It will inspire our youth, create a sporting legacy and provide a huge tourism and economic boost. I will work with Ministerial colleagues to take advantage of the opportunities this prestigious competition offers.
