Former President Donald Trump faces the start of the Democratic National Convention, and Vice President Kamala Harris recently unveiled an economic agenda, laying out her own plan to boost the U.S. economy, the Republican campaign said Monday.

The announcement is the latest sign of the Trump campaign’s efforts to refocus its message on policy, neutralizing many of Trump’s lines of attack against his former adversary, President Joe Biden, after Harris became the Democratic nominee.

Trump will announce a plan to „unleash American energy and lower costs for American families,” the campaign said in a press release Monday morning.

That agenda includes protecting the tax cuts he signed into law in 2017, the release said. Those reforms will expire after 2025.

Trump recently championed several tax cuts, including eliminating taxes on service workers’ tips and ending taxes on Social Security for seniors.

He has also promised to cut Americans’ energy prices in half, something he recently recommended implementing customs duties Up to 20% on imported goods.

He did not elaborate on how these policy goals would be implemented or how they would be paid for. The Constitution gives Congress the power to impose taxes, meaning any proposal to change the tax code must go through the legislative branch.

Trump plans to hold an economic and energy-focused campaign event at an equipment manufacturer in Pennsylvania on Monday at 3 p.m. ET.

Trump’s running mate, Ohio Sen. J.T. Vance will speak on energy and the economy in Philadelphia on Monday afternoon, the Trump campaign said.

Much of Monday’s press release focused on attacking Harris, rather than outlining Trump’s economic agenda.

Among other claims, the campaign accused Harris of wanting to let Trump-era tax cuts expire and seeking to ban gas-powered cars.

Both indictments include links to articles from 2019, when Harris was the Democratic presidential candidate. The Biden administration has not sought to ban the sale or ownership of cars Traditional gas engines.

The Trump and Harris campaigns have each said the other’s plans would raise costs for average Americans.

„While lying about Vice President Harris’ agenda, Donald Trump may hope no one will notice his plan to increase spending on middle- and working-class Americans, but he has to take responsibility for it,” said Brian Nelson, a Harris campaign veteran. Policy Advisor, in a statement to CNBC.

Nelson’s report cited a recent study by the Center for American Progress Action Fund, a progressive advocacy group. Payment plans A tax increase of $3,900 for middle-income families.
