The Last of Us Season 2 release date isn’t until 2025, HBO says

It’s not uncommon for major HBO series to take a while to return, as we saw this so often during the Game of Thrones days. But right now, a combination of big-budget shows and the current writers’ strike means some series, including The Last of Us Season 2, aren’t actually coming back for a very long time.

HBO’s head of drama Francesca Orsi opens up about what shows are returning due to the writers’ strike, and the long, long wait for The Last of Us Season 2.

„When everything is penciled down at the moment, I hope we can come to peace soon. Otherwise we have to evaluate what is the end of the 24 schedule and what programs are going to be presented for 2025,” Orsi said. Deadline. „We were watching The Last of Us sometime in 2025.”

The Last of Us season 2 was put on hold due to a writers strike. Co-showrunner and writer Craig Masin was active in the pickets. Originally, without scripts, actors auditioned using pre-existing dialogue from video games, but that too has reportedly been discontinued now. As a result, it is still unclear whether casting has even been completed.

„Sometime in 2025” means at least two full years between seasons 1 and 2 of The Last of Us. If it ends later in the year, maybe two-and-a-half years or more. Instead of January, Season 1 debuted.

We know that Season 2 will replace the second game immediately, but Mazin has already confirmed that due to the size of the game, it will take more than one season to replace it.

Waiting 2-2.5 years for Season 2 might help my current theory that Naughty Dog could release The Last of Us Part III by the time Season 3 finishes adapting The Last of Us Part II. Again, that may sound crazy until you look at the dates. If The Last of Us Season 2 is in 2025, Season 3 could be in late 2026 or 2027. Then another 1.5-12 year gap and we’re talking 2029, maybe, for a season 4. So yeah, even with all the Naughty Dogs going on, I’m sure a third game could come out, even if they’re working on other projects. They dramatically scaled back work on TLOU segments in multiplayer, freeing up more team members to work elsewhere. The game may have been scrapped entirely in favor of a return to single-player.

We’ll see what happens, but yes, it’s going to be a very long wait for Season 2. wait
