The third edition of the FIA Motorsport Games will take place in Spain from 23-27 October 2024, with the Generalitat Valenciana and the Circuit Ricardo Tormo joining forces to host the popular multi-sport event that brings together athletes from the four corners of the world with a unique spirit. Sports competition.
Launched jointly by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and the SRO Motorsports Group, the third running of the Games promises to be the biggest yet. Not only are all 16 categories that made up the 2022 event confirmed to return, but they will be joined by ten new ones, increasing the chances of drivers from National Sports Authorities (ASNs) around the world winning medals under their home country’s flag.
The development underlines the expansion from six categories to 16, from a highly successful inaugural event in 2019 in the Italian capital Rome and the nearby Vallelunga circuit to Marseille, France last year.
The 2022 Games set a new record for the number of countries competing in a single motorsport event so far. In four days of action across the Circuit Paul Ricard, Autocross Venois and the surrounding area, 463 athletes representing 72 ASNs battled for glory in front of 45,000 eager spectators, with Team Italy ultimately victorious. A Friday.
The torch now goes to Spain as the number of categories increases again to 26, spanning the entire spectrum of the sport from circuit racing to electric street, which includes karting, esports, off-road and rally – karting, esports, off-road and rally.
The original founding categories of the FIA Motorsport Games – GT, GT Sprint, Touring Car, Formula 4, Drift and Esports – continue to feature prominently, along with a new medal opportunity in Esports Rally.
In karting, the junior and senior sprint divisions will return, while the karting endurance will welcome female/male pairs aged 14 and over. A new addition to the category is Karting Mini, which is introduced for drivers aged eight to 11 years.
Fields of rally account for a large number of new species. Rally2, Rally4 and Historic Rally are each divided into three races – one for gravel specialists, one for tarmac specialists, and one covering both surfaces for all-rounders, with no fewer than nine chances to win medals. The new Rally All-Stars category, meanwhile, is open to drivers listed on the FIA Priority List who are not eligible to enter Rally2 or Rally4.
Cross Car Junior and Senior will return with a new Cross Car Eco category, complementing the existing electric competitions in Auto Slalom and Karting Slalom. More new varieties are under consideration.
In addition to the coveted trophy for the winning nation, there will also be regional trophies for Africa, the Americas, Asia-Pacific, Europe and the Middle East/North Africa (MENA). The NewStar Cup will be awarded to the country that shines brightest in grassroots categories and the AllStar Cup to the best performing country in categories reserved for more established drivers.
More information and details will follow before official entries for the 2024 FIA Motorsport Games begin early next year.
