Race Across the World, the BBC’s hugely successful and much-loved BAFTA-award-winning series, reaches its heart-stopping finale tonight, with an incredible 28-day combined figure of 7.1 million per episode and a flat 7.1 million. For the second part.
It makes Studio Lambert’s original design the biggest BBC reality title of the year. Over 3 million / 44% watched the show on BBC iPlayer during last year’s launch, making it the 5th biggest show on iPlayer so far this year*.
The series was a hit with younger viewers, with 16-34 year old figures averaging 1.1m across the first two episodes, with 66% of viewers on BBC iPlayer.
Michael Jochnowitz, BBC Commissioning Editor, said: “I am delighted that the series has resonated extraordinarily well with audiences and has done so well on iPlayer. RATW’s audience has always been very special and very loyal, and it’s incredible to see its numbers rise to new heights.
Tim Harcourt, chief creative officer at Studio Lambert, added: “We’re delighted Race has reached such an audience around the world. It is a testament to the hard work of all the teams that put the series together. Planning an event of this magnitude is a monumental feat; We can’t wait for people to watch the final episode – from the cast, crews on the ground, editors, production management and everyone else who made this fourth season so incredible.
This year, five brave duos captivated the audience as they raced 15,000 kilometers across several countries in East Asia.
Viewers will find out which pair will win the £20,000 cash prize in tonight’s final episode.
Studio Lambert recently won a BAFTA in the Factual Entertainment category for its sister show Celebrity Race Across the World.
