Thailand has announced long-stay visas to boost the economy

Bangkok, 16 July 2024 – Thailand has announced new visa measures to boost the Thai economy through travel and tourism. The 60-day visa waiver and Visa on Arrival (VOA) programs, Destination Thailand Visa (DTV), and student visas will come into effect from 15 July 2024.

Visa Exemption
Visa exemption for Thai citizens 93 countries and territories, from 57 countries ago. Visitors under this scheme are allowed to stay for tourism purposes and short-term business engagements for a period not exceeding 60 days, which may be extended by an immigration office for a period not exceeding 30 days.

Visa on Arrival (VOA)
Allow Thai nationals 31 countries and territories, from 19 countries before applying for VOA at immigration checkpoints on arrival. Under this scheme visitors are allowed to stay for tourism purposes not exceeding 15 days. The visa fee is 2,000 baht.

Destination Thailand Visa (DTV)
Thailand is introducing a new visa option – the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) – for remote workers, digital nomads and freelancers and participants in activities – Muay Thai courses, Thai cooking classes, sports training, medical treatments, seminars and music festivals. Spouses and dependent children of DTV holders are also eligible.

Foreigners wishing to apply for this visa must have financial proof or a guarantee of not less than 500,000 Baht for the duration of their stay. Visa fee is 10,000 baht.

DTV holders, along with their spouses and dependent children, are entitled to a five-year stay with multiple entries, not exceeding 180 days, which can be extended for a further 180 days.

Student Visa (Non-Resident ED Plus)
Thailand extends accommodation for foreign students studying higher education for one more year after graduation. They can look for work for an extended period, and if they work locally, they can change their visa type to non-immigrant B without leaving Thailand.
