Taylor Swift’s global Eras tour will boost the UK economy by nearly £1 billion ($1.3 billion) as fans splash the cash to see the American music star, Barclays bank estimated on Wednesday (12 June).
A study titled „Swiftonomics” found that nearly 1.2 million fans spend around £848 on tickets, travel, accommodation and merchandise to see the singer-songwriter perform in the UK over 15 summer days. According to Barclays, this figure is 12 times more than the average person spends per night in the country.
„When it comes to cultural icons like Taylor Swift — as we saw with Elvis and Beatlemania in the ’50s and ’60s — supporters have a very strong connection to the artist, so the willingness to spend becomes even more powerful,” said Peter Brooks. Scientist at Barclays.
Swift embarked on her European tour a year ago, playing sold-out arenas across North and South America and Asia. In the UK, Swift will perform at stadiums in Cardiff, Edinburgh, Liverpool and London.
By the end of 2023, the tour became the first to sell more than $1 billion in tickets. By the end of this year, it will more than double.
