La Roche and Zendaya have a special kind of professional relationship.
Stylist sat with The New York Times to discuss her plans a year after announcing her retirement from celebrity styling. During the interview, he shed light on his current working relationship with Roche Challenges Star.
„We call each other our fashion soulmates,” she told the publication. „We also refer to our relationship as 'big ideas, small details.' I come in and say, 'You have to wear 14 dresses, you have to change, and your hair has to fall down, and you have to put on a wig and take it off!' She said, 'No, no, no, we're going to do two tresses, and I'm going to keep the same hair.'
He continued, „It's like, I write the script and she rewrites it. I'm not saying we don't argue, because we do, we fight about things. But I know my place. I know she's the boss, and she has enough of me to let me be the boss sometimes. There is respect and love.
When the reporter noted that Roche doesn't seem retired, she admitted that she's a very unretired, retired person, but she's turned down several clients — except for Zendaya, who revealed she can't say no.
Elsewhere in the conversation, the stylist shared that the first few months after his retirement were difficult for him because he felt too much about who he was and what he did, and he didn't know who he was.
“I was tired. Also, my nephew died last year. He was 3 years old and he fell out the window the day before Thanksgiving,” she shared. „I never really had time to grieve because I was working and working and working. So I went through this grieving process for him and for my career. I went in with guilt, thinking that people who looked up to me were going to see me as withdrawn and sad.
