A Cornish firefighter tackled an important rescue mission – helping a couple on their wedding day.
St Austell Fire Station said on Facebook Firefighter Martin Giles and Watch Manager Andy Pryor were invited to be witnesses at the wedding of David Martin and Rebecca Hill.
The couple were traveling to Cornwall for their wedding and asked at the door of a fire station if they could help provide the two necessary witnesses.
Speaking about the invitation, Mr Giles and Mr Pryor said it was a privilege to help the happy couple.
Mr Giles said Mr Martin answered a knock on the station door saying he was getting married at St Austell Registry Office in Polkeith House and needed two witnesses.
„It was a bit odd but I went upstairs and checked with my boss and he said 'yeah, no problem’,” Mr Giles said.
Firefighters said they were witnessing a couple on holiday from the South East during their lunch break.
The couple planned to find two witnesses on the street, but no one was around and the fire station was right next to the wedding venue.
Mr Prior said they drove to the registry office in a fire engine and had their radios on them in case they got an incident call during the wedding.
She said it was a beautiful service and they were delighted to be part of the big day, although she explained that she and Mr Giles had extra duties to do.
Mr Pryor said: „When we got to the hall where they got married they were going to play some music but the CD player broke so the registrar asked us to sing.”
Along with Mr Giles singing, they were asked to photograph and video the wedding.
