Social awareness key to 'protecting environment': Saudi expert

RIYADH: Prominent figures from the Saudi Arabian business community attended an Iftar dinner and award ceremony held at the Indonesian Embassy in Riyadh on Tuesday to celebrate the close cooperation between the two countries.

Big winners on the night were Bin Shihon Trading Co. and Jarir Marketing Co., presented the Primatuda Awards by the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Indonesia, Dr. Abdul Aziz Ahmad.

Established in 1996, the awards are presented annually by the Indonesian government to Saudi importers who have shown commitment to trade and promote good business relations with the Southeast Asian nation.

They take their name from the Indonesian word for „best”.

As well as two major prize winners, Abdul Latif Jameel Co., Syed Bawasir Group and Sami Al-Qadiri Trading Est. Each received special recognition for their work.

„I hope this will further encourage Saudi businesses to deepen cooperation with Indonesian businesses looking to expand their footprint in Saudi Arabia and the wider Middle East region,” Ahmad said.

He extended an open invitation to all Saudi businesses to participate in the Indonesia 2024 trade fair to be held in October.

Saudi Arabia is the 21st largest buyer of Indonesia's exports, including cars, rubber tires, fish, paper products, charcoal and plywood, according to embassy data.

Indonesia imports ethylene glycol, sulphur, polypropylene, polyethylene and iron from Saudi Arabia.

Political and trade relations between the two countries have increased significantly since King Salman's visit to Indonesia in 2017.

In October last year, during the Indonesian president's state visit to Riyadh and Jakarta, the Saudi-Indonesia Supreme Coordination Committee was established under the leadership of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Joko Widodo.
