’SNL’ Weekend Update Roasts 'AI’ House Speaker Mike Johnson and Trump’s Inflated Assets

Saturday Night LiveThe weekend update tackled the election of Mike Johnson as the new Speaker of the House, along with Donald Trump’s latest legal troubles.

„After weeks of choosing a new Speaker of the House, Republicans gave up and created one with AI,” co-host Colin Jost began.

„There’s no way Mike Johnson is a real person. He’s supposed to be a conservative Republican, but he looks like every MSNBC host connected,” Jost continued, showing the audience three dark-haired, bespectacled anchors on the left channel. After weeks of voting, Republicans get bored, they all write in the same fake name, and then they’re like, 'Wait, that’s a real person?’

Michael Che brought up some of Johnson’s far-right positions on social issues.

„Johnson has been called a homophobe for supporting anti-LBGTQ legislation and said homosexuality is 'weird’ and 'deviant,’ two of the coolest gay clubs on the West Side,” he quipped.

From there, Jost turned to former President Trump to testify during a civil fraud trial in New York this week.

Trump „testified on the stand for the first time in ten years, and it’s funny how no one is 100% sure which trial this sketch came from,” Jost said in a courtroom sketch that appeared on the screen.

Since leaving office, Trump has faced federal charges related to the mishandling of classified documents and his role in the January 6 uprising. He faces state charges in New York for falsifying business records and state RICO charges in Georgia for trying to interfere in that state’s 2020 election results. In total, 91 charges were filed—all felonies.

In a civil trial involving the Trump Organization, a judge held Trump, his two-year-old sons and some executives responsible for fraud, Chey added:

„Donald Trump’s three oldest children were involved in putting together the financial statements for his company. Ivanka wrote the summaries, Dan, Jr. put the numbers together, Eric licked the envelopes.
