Sri Lanka 248 for 7 (Avishka 96, Mendis 59, Barak 3-54) lost India 138 (Rohit 35, Vellalake 5-27) by 110 runs
For India, it was the culmination of their struggles against spin last week, losing nine wickets to the spinners in the third game – a total of 27 in the three-match series.
Vellalake took 5 for 27 this time, but at various times in the series it was either Vanindu Hazaran, Jeffrey Wandersay or Sarith Asalanga. But at no time – during Rohit Sharma’s now-expected top-order romps – did India look like they could keep fighting.
But this time, even Rohit’s impact was relegated to a mere cameo – 35 off 20 – before Vellalake made a significant impact on Sri Lanka’s total, catching him trying to sweep him.
Apart from him, only Virat Kohli, Ryan Barrack and Washington Sundar – 20, 15, 30 – reached double figures and only Washington’s innings attempted to put any pressure on the Sri Lankan bowlers.
India’s struggles earlier in the day put a premium on Avishka’s 102-ball 96, which set Sri Lanka up so well that not even a slump at 28 for five could derail their innings to any significant conclusion.
