Having signed with the Capitals ahead of the Australian tour, he was due to go straight to the ILT20 but will return home to recuperate before heading to the PSL where he was.
Joseph is unlikely to be in short supply of opportunities from T20 leagues around the world after an impressive start to his career, claiming Steven Smith off his first delivery and taking two five-wicket hauls.
However, after his Kappa heroics, Joseph was always determined to be available for West Indies duty.
„I will always be here to play Test cricket for West Indies,” he said. „I am not afraid to say this live. There will be times when T20 will come and there will be Test cricket … but I will always be ready to play for West Indies no matter how much money I get.”
Joseph had a busy 24 hours after the Test as he fielded various media requests while he was hailed by newspapers leading the front pages with cricket results in the Caribbean. Many leaders from the region also took to social media to post their appreciation and congratulations.
Managing Joseph must now be at the forefront of the West Indies selector's thoughts and balance the offers he receives from overseas. During the spell in Brisbane, Ian hoped to get money to protect Bishop Joseph.
„It is important for the Board, Guyana Govt and co-operative bodies to find a way to allocate funds to keep Shamar Joseph & 1 or 2 other fast bowlers in the Caribbean and control the cricket they play,” Bishop X posted. Their speed is everything. Don't let it burn.”
Although Joseph has not featured in the white-ball leg of the Australian tour, he is yet to make it to the T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and West Indies in June. His next opportunity in Test cricket will come on the tour of England in July, where the West Indies will play three Tests.
The ODI series against Australia begins in Melbourne on Friday. West Indies will be captained by Shai Hope and coach Darren Sammy. For the three T20 series, Rowman Powell will take over as captain.
