The all-rounder continues to bat after the attack but avoids bowling as his shoulder is frozen.
Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur was hit on the shoulder while batting in the nets at Centurion on Saturday. The severity of the damage is yet to be ascertained and scans will be carried out if required. For now, scans have not confirmed the need – Thakur looked in considerable discomfort when he was hit and did not bowl in the nets afterwards, although he continued to bat after the hit.
The second Test between South Africa and India, which the visitors must win to level the series, begins on January 3 in Cape Town.
Thakur, the first player to enter the throwdown nets, was hit on the left shoulder while facing throwdowns from one of the team's support staff. This happened 15 minutes into the session. A length ball kicked Thakur into trouble and hit his leading left shoulder, causing him to scream in pain.
After Thakur finishes batting, the physio slings an ice pack over his shoulder.
India were having a net session on what was scheduled to be the final day of the Boxing Day Test at Centurion, which ended in three days with South Africa winning by an innings. Tagore scored 24 in the first innings of the Test and took 2 before being squared up to a short ball – and fended off to gully – which was similar to what happened in the nets. He didn't have the best time with the ball either, posting figures of 19-2-101-1.
