JAKARTA (ANTARA) –
The Indonesian government has prepared 15 medical personnel in the Indonesian Defense Force (TNI) to carry out humanitarian work in the Gaza Strip.
The 15 medical personnel are part of a 25-member team that will be deployed in the first batch to the UAE-owned floating hospital in El Arish, Egypt, before being transferred to Rafah. Its aim is to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people.
This was announced by Major General Ujang Darvis, Director General of Defense Strategy, Ministry of Defence.
„After the initial 15 personnel arrive safely at the field hospital in Rafah, we will replace them with 15 to the floating hospital in El Arish,” Darvis told Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto during a pre-departure briefing on Wednesday.
The first group is scheduled to depart on Friday morning, August 9, 2024.
Therefore, a total of 40 health workers will be deployed for humanitarian work in El Arish and Gaza, if the transfer from El Arish to Rafah goes smoothly. The personnel, which included four female officers, were from three branches of the TNI.
Darvis said in his statement that the floating hospital in El Arish is a gathering place for health workers who want to enter Gaza for humanitarian work. It is also the closest point to the Rafah crossing in southern Gaza.
The Director General confirmed that the medical officers will get complete facilities during their deployment as he observed during the previous visit to the El Arish Floating Hospital.
„The facilities there are complete. They have free laundry, gymnasium and volleyball court which the health officials can use to maintain their physical health,” he said.
He further noted that 40 personnel received 5 days of pre-departure training at the TNI’s Peacekeeping Mission Center (PMPP) in Bogor District, West Java.
