The Pentagon is accelerating efforts to establish a domestic rare earth supply chain for permanent magnets used in key military systems and reduce dependence on China for critical minerals.

The Pentagon has stepped up efforts to develop a domestic rare earth supply chain for permanent magnets used in key defense systems, the company said in a March 11 news release. The Department of Defense has committed $439 million to support domestic rare earth production initiatives through 2020.
