Oscar winners Russell Crowe and Rami Malek and Oscar nominee Michael Shannon are set to star in the historical drama „Nuremberg,” Bluestone Entertainment and Walton Media have announced.
Director James Vanderbilt, known for writing and producing „Zodiac” before making his directorial debut with „Oath,” wrote the script based on the book „The Nazi and the Psychiatrist” by Jack El-Hay. The rights to the book have been acquired by Bluestone Entertainment, Walton Media and the Checheny Fund – who are also financing the film.
It follows Malek as an American psychiatrist tasked with determining whether Nazi prisoners deserve to be tried for their war crimes. He finds himself in a battle of wits with Hitler’s right-hand man, played by Grove. Supreme Court Justice Robert H., the lead prosecutor at the Nuremberg Trials. Shannon will portray Jackson.
“What an honor to work with such a talented cast. „Our partners at Bluestone and Walton have been incredibly supportive, and I can’t wait to bring this amazing true story to the screen,” Vanderbilt said in a statement.
Production will begin in Hungary in February. Oscar nominees Darius Wolski and Eve Stewart will serve as director of photography and production designer, respectively, and Emmy winner John Bobsidera will be in charge of acting.
The film is produced by Richard Saperstein, William Sherrock, Vanderbilt, Brad Fischer, Istvan Major and Paul Neinstein along with production company Filmsquad. Walton’s Frank Smith, Ben Tappan and Cher Howrish will serve as executive producers, along with Annie Saperstein, Brooke Saperstein, Beau Durbin, Bela Hajnal and Nicolette Barabas.
