The 27-year-old Frenchman was the 2020 FIA World Touring Car Champion, followed by a second title a year later, successfully defending his crown.
Racing runs in the Erlacher family as the nephew of BTCC Champion, Touring Car Royalty and four-time FIA WTCR Champion Euan Müller.
Jumping into the GEN3 will be Erlacher’s first foray into single-seater machinery and his first foray into an electric race car, but the Frenchman has experience with the team having completed sim testing duties with DS PENSKE.
„I am delighted to have the opportunity to drive the new Formula E GEN3 race car,” he says. „It’s a championship that’s growing every day and has a different approach compared to other racing series, which is why it’s so interesting.
„I’m really excited for the session in Rome, one of the most exciting locations on the Season 9 calendar.”
Rookie free training
Teams can field someone who has previously modeled Formula E machines, but they must not be drivers included in the Season 9 entry list, and they must not have competed in a Formula E race before. The idea is to give top young talent a route to racing at the top of the motorsport ladder with a taste of Formula E and the opportunity to attract prospective teams to the world’s leading electric race series.
