Yesterday, the Honorable Mary Ng, Minister of International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business and Economic Development, met with Mexico’s Secretary of Economy, Raquel Buenrostro, on the sidelines of the Third Free Trade Commission of the Canada-US-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA). Meeting in Cancun, Mexico.
Minister Ng thanked Secretary Buenrostro for hosting the Commission meeting and for his firm commitment to strengthening the close relationship between Canada and Mexico. The Minister reaffirmed Canada’s willingness to continue working together on shared goals and tackling key common issues together.
Minister Ng highlighted the important contribution of Canadian mining companies to the development of the Mexican economy, including the critical mineral supply chain, which is central to building the clean economy of the future.
The Minister recognized Mexico’s commitment to sustainable mining and discussed the importance of implementing mining reforms that sustain rules-based trade through a strong multilateral trading system under CUSMA and with WTO agreements at its core.
Following the North American Leaders Summit earlier this year, where Prime Minister Trudeau and President López Obrador met, Minister Ng thanked the Canadian companies for their continued efforts to address concerns and find solutions with Mexico’s energy sector reforms. Minister Ng said he looks forward to continuing to implement the Canada-Mexico Action Plan agreed by leaders at the North American Leaders’ Summit last January.
