Here’s what’s happening in European football on Monday:
England
Newcastle can secure Champions League qualification with a point against Leicester in the Premier League. Liverpool’s draw with Aston Villa on Saturday leaves Newcastle on the brink of a top-four finish. Leicester, meanwhile, are desperate for points as they try to avoid relegation. The Foxes are three points below 17th-placed Everton with a game in hand. A win would lift Leicester out of the relegation zone on goal difference and put their survival hopes into the final round of the season in their own hands.
Italy
Juventus could find themselves in the top four of Serie A before the start of their game at Empoli. A new sentencing for the misdemeanor count is expected Monday. Juventus were initially fined 15 points, but that was suspended last month and referred back to the Football Confederation’s Court of Appeal for a new punishment. Juventus are second in Serie A, five points ahead of fifth-placed AC Milan. The Bianconeri must also get over the disappointment of losing to Sevilla in the Europa League semi-finals. Roma, who advanced to the Europa League final with a 1-0 aggregate win over Bayer Leverkusen, host Salernitana and still have faint hopes of finishing in the top four.
