Hurricane Hobart Defeated by 122 for 2 (Lee 77*, Carey 38*). Melbourne Stars 121 (Lanning 27, Strano 3-20, Carey 3-32) by eight wickets
The former South Africa star scored an unbeaten 77 off 49 balls after three stumpings in the field. After dismissing a disappointing Stars line-up for 121, the Hurricanes looked for victory with 23 balls to spare at the Allan Border Field.
Lee, 31, was in top form. She dominated, and was devastating through the offside and on the legside. A knock that included four sixes was bowled across the middle of Lee’s bat.
Melbourne’s batters never got out of first gear. When they looked to do so, after turning 20, with Maia Bouchier and Annabelle Sutherland as prime examples, they were dismissed as failing to kick on.
The Hurricanes were sloppy in the field against the Brisbane Heat at the same ground two days ago, but they bowled tight and took their catches. Lee was excellent behind the stumps and set the standard in the field.
Five bowlers were wickets, including Carey, who had a brilliant game and bounced back to overcome tough treatment from Lanning early on.
The Hurricanes moved up nine points on the WBBL ladder, four behind fourth-placed Sydney Thunder.
