Kim Johnson dead: 'Survivor: Africa’ winner 79

Kim Johnson, „Survivor” Season 3 runner-up on „Survivor: Africa” and the oldest female finalist in series history, has died. She is 79 years old.

The place and cause of death were not immediately available.

Jeff Probst, who has hosted the competitive reality series since 2000, shared a tribute to Johnson on his Instagram Monday on behalf of the entire CBS and „Survivor” crew.

„Kim was a pioneer on 'Survivor,’ and we are deeply saddened to learn of her passing. She still holds the record for being the oldest woman to win an Immunity challenge, earning her spot in the final two and receiving votes to win the game,” wrote Propst. „Even at 56, I remember how much she was an inspiration to other 'older’ people because she showed that age is just a number and if you’re willing to risk failure you can surprise yourself. She certainly is in the game and in all of us who were lucky enough to work that season and tell her story. She has made her mark.

Ethan Sohn, who won „Survivor: Africa” in a 5-2 vote, posted a tribute on Instagram on Monday. “Kim Johnson keep calm. It’s a blessing to call you my friend and a privilege to experience the ultimate tribal council with you,” Joan wrote. „I’ll always keep the planters punching in your honor!”

Johnson, a retired school teacher from Cleveland, Ohio, was the league coordinator for an indoor tennis club and owner of a sportswear boutique before joining „Survivor: Africa” at age 56. According to his CBS „Survivor” bio, „Johnson” enjoys exercising (running, tennis and free weights), camping, hiking, fishing, sailing, golf, horseback riding, thoroughbred horse racing and playing any type of sport. She describes herself as grounded, logical and determined.
