Karen Reed Netflix Documentary Series Announced – NBC Boston

Netflix has announced a three-part docuseries focusing on the Karen Reed murder trial and the death of Boston Police Officer John O’Keefe.

Read on to face charges including second-degree murder in the January 2022 death of her boyfriend O’Keefe, who prosecutors allege struck him with his SUV outside a home in Canton, Massachusetts. But his defense argued that he was a victim. Law enforcement conspires to protect the real killers.

After a trial that lasted months and attracted intense media attention, jurors failed to reach a verdict, and the case was declared a mistrial.

The fifth juror in the Karen Reed murder trial has offered to say the jury would have voted to find Reed not guilty, according to a new filing by her defense team. The as-yet-untitled Netflix series, currently in production with Sandpaper Films, is co-directed by Daniel Johnson and Rob Miller.

„The team feels incredibly privileged to bring this important series to Netflix’s global audience,” said Johnson and Miller. Netflix said. „This has attracted a great deal of public attention and has far-reaching implications. We are also mindful that this is an extremely sensitive case, and we are committed to treating all those involved with the respect and consideration they deserve.

The mistrial is far from over in the case, and it’s unclear whether O’Keefe will ever get justice. Prosecutors have said they will seek a retrial as the defense pushes for dismissal of two counts of second-degree murder and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death. The jury list has been blocked as questions swirl about the safety of jurors. And because one of their key witnesses — former state police lead investigator Michael Proctor — was suspended without pay for his conduct, the prosecution must manage the trial.
