Italian Open: Marcel Siem beats Tom McKibbin in play-off for sixth European Tour win | Golf News

Marcel Siem defeated Tom McKibbin in a play-off to win the Italian Open on Sunday and his sixth win on the European Tour in his fourth tournament since undergoing hip surgery in February.

Siem and McKibbin both finished 10-under overall, with Siem sealing the opening play-off hole.

Siem was three strokes ahead of clubhouse leader McGibb through eight holes in his final round, leaving him one stroke behind for just four bogeys and tied for 18th.

But Siem holed a 22-foot putt to finish with an even-par 71 and force a playoff.

„Scoring 18 was one of the best moments in golf for me, and to make that playoff again was awesome,” Siem said.

McKibbin posted a bogey-free 65 in the final round at Adriatic Golf Club, Serbia.

McKibbin earned the consolation prize of a spot after missing out on a second DP World Tour title at the British Open, joining American Sean Crocker to finish one stroke in a tie for third with Janic de Bruyne.

Siem, 43, won his first European Tour title 20 years ago. He lost his Tour card in 2021 and won it back at qualifying school last year. He then won the India Open early last year for his first tour win in over eight years.
