Jakarta (Antara) – Vice President Maruf Amin said that Indonesia and Saudi Arabia share a commitment to support Palestine and resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict during his meeting with Saudi Minister of Hajj and Umrah Tawfiq Bin Fawzan Al-Rabia.
Apart from preparations for the 2024 Hajj, Amin and Tawfiq also discussed the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in a meeting at the Vice Presidential Palace here on Tuesday (April 30).
„Indonesia appreciated the joint effort with Saudi Arabia in the framework of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to mobilize support for resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict,” Amin noted, according to a statement received here on Wednesday.
He noted that Indonesia is determined to completely reject Israel's move against Palestine, which has increased security instability in the Middle East.
„Indonesia calls on all parties to immediately cease hostilities and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people,” the vice president said.
Responding to Amin's statements, Tawfiq emphasized that Saudi Arabia's position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict resolution is similar to Indonesia's. He also praised Indonesia's persistence in protecting the rights of Palestinians internationally.
„As far as the Palestinian issue is concerned, we agree that there will be a blatant violation of the colonial system of Israel,” Tawfiq told Amin.
The Saudi minister told the vice president that Saudi Arabia held an extraordinary OIC summit in Riyadh last October to respond to the Israeli occupation of Gaza. President Joko Widodo was among national leaders, he added.
The OIC summit mandated the establishment of a group of foreign ministers to work on formulating diplomatic strategies to support the Palestinian people's struggle, Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said.
Tawfiq also confirmed that bilateral coordination between Saudi Arabia and Indonesia will continue to support Palestine, including at the OIC platform.
