The International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed that the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 will be shifted from Bangladesh to the United Arab Emirates.
The event, which was scheduled to take place from October 3 to 20, will now be staged in Dubai and Sharjah.
ICC Chief Executive Officer Jeff Allardyce said, “It is a shame that Bangladesh did not host the Women’s T20 World Cup.
„I would like to thank the team at BCB for exploring all avenues to host the event in Bangladesh, but travel advisories from the governments of many of the participating teams mean that is not possible. However, they will retain the hosting rights. We look forward to bringing an ICC global event to Bangladesh in the future.”
“I would like to thank the PCB and the Emirates Cricket Board for their generous support on behalf of Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe, and we look forward to hosting ICC global events in those two countries in 2026. .”
ICC president Greg Barclay has confirmed to the board that he will not seek a third term and will step down when his current term ends at the end of November. Barclay was appointed as the independent ICC president in November 2020 before being re-elected in 2022.
Incumbent directors have until 27 August 2024 to submit nominations for the next chairman, and if there is more than one candidate, an election will be held so that the new chairman’s term begins on 1 December 2024.
