Times Square will once again be the center of New Year's celebrations. Gotham/GC Pictures
Technically, it started 2024 hours ago when the people of Line Islands, Samoa and Tonga celebrate at midnight. But in most of America, the New Year doesn't begin until the Waterford crystal-encrusted ball drops in Times Square.

Why ring in the New Year surrounded by drunk strangers when you can be surrounded by friends (and champagne or prosecco)? It is hot. The food is excellent. There are countless ways to see the ball and its 32,256 LEDs fall—even if you're far away from the television screen.
