Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire Easter weekend has been doing terrific business at the box office.
After raking in $37 million on Friday, Warner Bros. And Legendary Tentpole is now on track to open to $75 million at the North American box office, ahead of the expected $45 million to $55 million. If those predictions hold true, it would be the second biggest opening of the five titles in the MonsterVerse library, as well as good news for the box office, giving it the biggest debut of the year to date.
Globally, its release is likely to cross $200 million (even doing well in China, where Legendary East is handling the film). As of Friday, its initial overseas take stood at $47.1 million. Its first-day gross in China was $13.7 million, including previews. These days, many Hollywood films don't even make it to that point over a full weekend.
Many critics didn't think much of the film, but audiences disagreed, giving it an A- CinemaScore and 4.5 stars on PostTrack. It also plays to an ethnically diverse audience. Sixty-seven percent of Friday's audience were men, while 62 percent of ticket buyers were 35 and under.
Adam Wingard returns to direct Tentpole, starring Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry and Don Stevens. This time, the two mega monsters decide to put their differences aside and face a mysterious force that threatens to destroy their planet.

But Godzilla and Kong aren't the only reasons WB and Legendary should be celebrating. Denis Villeneuves The Hill: Part Two It crossed $600 million at the global box office on Friday, compared to a worldwide debut of $406 million. Hill.
The numbers will be updated on Sunday.
