The 2024 Giro d’Italia route was announced on Friday with race organizers including two time trials for the 107th edition of the Corsa Rosa.
Part of Stage 6 includes a 12km straight Bianche gravel stretch, as well as six taxing hilltop finals, according to RCS Sport.
Next season’s first Grand Tour starts in Turin on Saturday, May 4 and ends in Rome on Sunday, May 26 with a lap around the Colosseum.
With three weeks of racing, the organizers have chosen to reduce the average stage length in line with other Grand Tours, and there are only four stages over 200k, most of which are 170km.
The route was announced in Trento, Italy, featuring 2023 winners Primos Roglic, Jay Hindley, Filippo Kanna, Peter Sagan and Vincenzo Nibali.
Umbria hosts Stage 7, with Stage 14 near Lake Garda for two time trials.
There are mountain stages near the start of the Tour, including Stage 2 towards Europa, as well as challenging routes in Stage 8 and Stage 10.
Then, last week, Stage 15’s climb reached 2,385 meters in Livigno, as the Tour detoured earlier to Switzerland. At the Passo dello Stelvio, the 2024 Tour reaches an altitude of 2,758 m.
Stage 17 features several tough climbs, with the double-climb at Monte Grappa in the Veneto being a tough ask with an equally tough breakaway.
The final stage will be held in the capital Rome before the winner is crowned.
