Welcome to Brussels editionBloomberg’s Daily Commentary on the European Union is at its heart.
Europe is grappling with the prospect of Donald Trump’s return to the US presidency, while placing hopes on incumbent Vice President Kamala Harris, who appears to have gained enough delegates overnight to win her party’s nomination. According to EU officials, European governments are quietly looking to develop ties with Republicans that would ensure a potential Trump White House stay. All the while, Harris’s vision for American foreign policy and defense attracted many European countries. Another plus for Europe is Harris’s national security adviser Phillip Gordon’s deep understanding of Europe and its security needs.
