Some of the key highlights of our survey of the economy are…
- The survey reveals that 61% Canadians think their household finances are in good shape 8% describing them as very good and 52% Describing them as good people. Quebecers (70%) and Canadians aged 55 or older (69%) are more likely to consider their household finances to be in good shape.
- A third of working Canadians (36%) are worried that they will lose their job within the next twelve months. The rate is highest among Canadians aged 18 to 34 (46%)
- Also, 47% Canadians report their living wage check as a wage cheque. This rate increases to 58% among Canadians aged 35 to 54. More than half of Americans (56%) go paycheck to paycheck.
- Six in ten Canadians (58%) believe the country is in an economic recession.
methodology
This online survey of the economy was conducted from August 23 to 25, 2024, with 1,601 Canadian and 1,032 US residents, 18 years of age or older, randomly recruited from LEO’s online panel.
A margin of error cannot be associated with non-probability sampling in a panel survey. For comparison purposes, probability sampling of this size yields a margin of error of ±2.45%, (19 times out of 20) for the Canadian sample and ±3.05%, (19 times out of 20) for the American sample.
