Sources say Courteney Cox may return to the „Scream” franchise Variety She is in talks to reprise her role as Gale Weathers in the seventh film in the slasher series, directed by „Scream” creator and writer Kevin Williamson.
The news comes two weeks after Neve Campbell announced he was returning as Sidney Prescott after stepping away from „Scream 6” due to a salary dispute.
„Sydney Prescott is coming back!!!!” Campbell posted on Instagram on March 12. “Playing Sydney in the 'Scream' movies is always a blast and an honor. My appreciation for these films and what they made me feel has never waned. I am very happy and honored to say that I have been very respectfully asked to bring Sidney back to the screen.
Williamson wrote on Instagram, “It's been almost 30 years since my first script, 'Scream' directed by the legendary Wes Craven. I never would have predicted what it would turn out to be. Or I will run the seventh part of the franchise. I'm grateful and excited, and I can't wait to take this journey with Neave and the entire 'Scream' family as we bring back Sidney Prescott in the next chapter of the 'Scream' franchise. Thanks to all 'Scream' fans. The gift that keeps on giving.”
The franchise's seventh installment imploded last year when Spyglass fired star Melissa Barrera over recordings about the Israel-Hamas war that it deemed anti-Semitic, and Jenna Ortega left due to apparent scheduling conflicts.
Mason Gooding, who played Chad Meeks-Martin in the last two „Scream” movies, predicted earlier this month that „Scream 7” would find its way. „If it can make money, I guarantee you, they will,” he said Variety At Vanity Fair and Instagram's pre-Oscars party in early March.
He went on to say, “It depends on what we think is the best film for the fans. … If people want it, they'll do whatever they can to make it happen.”
