Celeste Barber has launched a scathing attack against streaming giant Netflix after it was announced that they were canceling comedy series Wellmania after one season.
The 41-year-old comedian posted a video on Instagram on Tuesday in which he addressed the shock cancellation and didn’t mince words when blaming.
’Hi guys WellMania will not be renewed for another season. Netflix said it’s all about the numbers. Of course, she started.
’I thought it was smashed, but I didn’t understand how it worked. Thank you for the love and support throughout the show. The way it was received was amazing.
’A lot of you saw yourself in my character and said you wanted to see her, but this industry is kind of bulls**t. So go and watch Friends, but not on Netflix,’ she snapped.
He also posted a picture of the Wellmania poster next to the Netflix streaming chart, showing that it was once among the top ten most-watched shows on the platform.
Many of Barber’s celebrity friends were quick to jump in to support her in the comments section.
’Take it to another streamer,’ suggested Peter Helyar and The Bachelorette’s Tania Togo added: 'Celeste loved it. Netflix shmetlix’.
Daily Mail Australia has approached Netflix for comment.
It was announced in January that Barber would be expanding her career by starring in the Netflix comedy series Wellmania.
The Sydney-born comedian shared the trailer and poster of the series on Instagram and told his fans that it will release on March 29.
The series follows Barber’s character, Liv, as she embarks on a strict 'health journey’ after a trip to the doctor where she is diagnosed with a 'catastrophic’ health condition.
The trailer begins by showing New York-based Liv flying to Australia and unable to return home after falling ill, which shows her striving to live a healthy life.
The show was well received by critics and received an 89% fresh rating on review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes.
