Canadian investment boosts youth job opportunities, economy on demystifying shores

Temiskaming Shores, ON – Federal Economic Development Agency for Northern Ontario – FedNor

Today, the Honorable Anthony Rota, Member of Parliament for Nipissing-Temiskaming, announced a $40,000 FedNor investment that helped the Temiskaming Shores and Area Chamber of Commerce (TSACC) hire a youth coach for a one-year term. The announcement was made on behalf of the Honorable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Indigenous Services and Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency (FedNor) for Northern Ontario.

Working as the marketing and communications coordinator, the youth intern supported a variety of activities that helped TSACC promote area businesses, services, attractions and events. While on the job, the coach led the modernization of room operations and improved communication tools and platforms. This includes developing and coordinating social media and marketing campaigns, improving communications, and improving features and content for the Chamber website and membership management system. When the internship ended in September 2023, the results were deemed so successful that TSACC hired the youth coach for a full-time position.

Providing opportunities for young graduates and connecting companies and businesses with talented and passionate workers is exactly what this Government of Canada employment initiative is doing in Northern Ontario. Since its inception more than three decades ago, FedNor’s youth employment initiative has helped create more than 2500 jobs for youth in Northern Ontario.
